I decided I was excused from sleeping on the ground after I turned 40, but if I was into camping, I'd go to Moose Lake State Park.
In fact, I'll probably go back there sometime soon with a comfy chair, some food and drink, my camera and some binoculars just to spend a DAY communing with nature in one of the many lovely campsites in the park.
If you've ever fantasized about living in the woods, this is the state park to visit. It was green and quiet, very peaceful. Plus, there's a nice swimming beach on Echo Lake and lots of hiking trails throughout the park.
Another interesting thing to see is the extensive display of Minnesota agates in the visitor center.
The park is just north of Hinckley, less than a mile east of I-35. If you got tired of cooking out, you could make a run to Tobies for some cinammon rolls and be back in a jiffy.
